Major renovations are coming to Saugeen Golf Club.
At the end of May, the certificate holders at the club approved a 1.6 million dollar renovation to the existing clubhouse facility.
Saugeen Golf Club General Manager Jeff Myatt is excited about the project for a variety of reasons.
First, the upgrade of the facility is due, as the existing venue was constructed almost 50 years ago.
Second, the renovation will include upgrades to the technology available for use at the club which, in rapidly changing times of technology, is also much needed.
Third, the renovation will allow Saugeen Golf Club to operate as a viable community hall for a variety of functions golf related or otherwise, including weddings and special occasions.
Myatt is more excited that the renovation will allow Saugeen Golf Club to have two distinct entities; a restaurant and a community hall.
In the past, the existing clubhouse has functioned in a dual capacity, and the renovation will allow the club more flexibility in terms of hosting events without interrupting their normal operation.
The renovation was first proposed almost 15 years ago, but has been delayed for a variety of reasons over the course of time.
In the past decade and a half, the Saugeen Golf Club has added the Sunrise Course, bringing Saugeen up to 27 playing holes, plus they installed a major watering system for the course.
The upcoming renovation of the clubhouse facility will mean the membership of the club will have overseen almost three million dollars in alterations based on the three projects.
Myatt relates there is money at the club to cover the capital cost of the project but he also doesn’t rule out the potential of undertaking fundraising initiatives.
