Huron-Bruce Liberal MPP Carol Mitchell says she expects to have regulations for various risk management programs in place by the end of June.
The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs says she’s heard back from the various agricultural sectors and everyone is now working on the new regulations.
She says all commodity groups she has met with are dedicated to meeting the deadline and that the process is going smoothly so far.
Mitchell says each sector has provided input to her on the regulations and everyone is now trying to hammer out the details.
She believes groups representing grain, oilseed, cattle, veal, sheep and hog producers are dedicated to having a risk management framework in place.
Mitchell says all sector representatives she has spoken with realize the importance of what they’re helping to accomplish.
There will also be new self-directed risk management programs for fruit and vegetable farmers in Ontario.
Mitchell spoke Tuesday as thousands of civil servants, politicians and reporters lined up outside the Legislature for a free roast beef sandwich from the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association.
