If you happen to be a patient on an extended stay in the hospitals controlled by Grey Bruce Health Services and you discover a couple of nurses talking about you, it’s all part of a Quality Improvement Initiative.
Grey Bruce Health Services President and CEO Maureen Solecki says nurses, about to change shifts, used to tape record information on a patient for the next nurse on duty.
Now they talk face to face, usually in the patient’s room.
Solecki says research shows the new system increases patient safety and also patient satisfaction because the client knows the information is being exchanged.
She says if the patient’s family happens to be there as well, they have an opportunity to ask questions.
Solecki says she and the vice-president of clinical services Sue McCutcheon have been visiting the various hospitals within Grey Bruce Health Services, talking to nurses about the improvement plan and watching how it’s being put in place.
