A massive chicken farm operation just south of Hanover is going to receive a major overhaul.
Hanover Broilers will be tearing down four large chicken barns and replacing them with three new barns.
Owner Henry Lansink says the three new barns will occupy the same 96 thousand square feet as the current four.
Lansink is eager to get the project underway — and notes it’s taken two years to get all of the approvals in place.
Hanover has approved the site plan agreement and work is set to begin in June.
The construction project is expected to take between 6 and 8 months.
Lansink says the new barns will offer the latest in technology which should help reduce odour problems during the hot summer months.
He says the new barns will have better air circulation systems which will exhaust the air out the roof rather than the side of the buildings.
The new barns will house 96 thousand chickens.
Lansink is pleased to have Council’s blessing — he notes when his farm was annexed into Hanover, he wanted to be sure the town would respect his farm practices.
Broilers Incorporated is located on the Neustadt road, just south of Hanover.
