Saugeen Shores council has approved the study of a fire service review consisting of a risk assessment and the development of a master fire plan.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says the plan is a strategic vision into the needs of the community when it comes to fire services.
Eagleson says it shapes the level of service, equipment purchases and future planning for the immediate five years and a vision for the next decade.
The Master Fire Plan was last updated in 2006.
Eagleson says the process involves a 10-step process taking up to a year to complete.
The Chief says they’re fortunate to have Saugeen Shores resident Bert Kuntz, who is known across Canada for developing fire planning documents, as the head of the local master plan process.
Kuntz has work in the fire service industry for over 40-years.
He will be paid $10,000 for the work which is already included in the 2011 budget.
