Zehrs stores are going local with their beef products.
Goderich Store Manager Steve Hewitt says they just launched their Ontario-only corn fed beef initiative over the long weekend.
He says this is the response to customers who didn’t understand why a Canadian store was selling so much product from American farms.
While prices may go up slightly, Hewitt says they’re trying to keep it as close to the usual prices as possible.
He says rising fuel costs and transportation have more of an impact on food price than where it comes from.
Hewitt says they also have a Ontario produce program and are looking into the possibility of only selling Ontario pork.
The Ontario-only beef program is only running in the stores in rural areas, though there are plans to expand into the urban centres.
