It’s time to test your well water.
With recent heavy rains, the advisory comes from the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
Safe Water Manager Andrew Barton says it’s as simple as picking up a bottle from any of their sites, filling it with tap water, and dropping it off for testing within 24 hours.
There are numerous pick up and drop off locations; including at the Owen Sound and Walkerton Public Health offices, Durham Hospital Lab, Hanover Hospital, Kincardine Hospital, Markdale Hospital, Meaford Hospital Lab, and at the Southampton Hospital.
While the Health Unit suggests you check your well water four times a year, Barton says its most important following the spring thaw.
Along with water testing, Barton also suggests doing a visual inspection of your well.
He says look to see if the casing of the well is still out of the ground, secured and sealed and be weary if you have a dug well or a pit well that’s surrounded by surface water.
