A team of local missionaries are doing work in the Village of Hope in Zimbabwe.
This is the fifth aid trip for the Mission Zimbabwe group.
Team Leader Barry Mutrie says the trip is to support the orphaned children of Zimbabwe.
The Village of Hope is essentially a compound with seven orphan homes with approximately 60 children.
Mutrie says it’s amazing to see how the village grows each time they come back, and he says the eventual goal is to have 16 homes for children.
But he says it’s not like the orphanages we think of here in Canada.
The children have a house mom and an auntie, and they grow up in a family atmosphere.
Mutrie says they had the opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day with the ladies of the village, and celebrate the work they do.
There is also a school in the compound that has now grown to house elementary and secondary grades.
The people there also keep a farm in order to maintain a sustainable community.
Mutrie says they bring over some much needed items, and even items donated by people in the Grey-Bruce community, such as blankets and linens.
The team returned on Saturday May 21st.
