The Grey County Emergency Medical Services has unveiled a new Incident Command Unit.
The new command trailer can be used for large scale public events and it was introduced on Monday as part of EMS Week.
Coordinator and Grey County Paramedic Rick Tromblay says the trailer can be equipped to restock up to 50 ambulances and serve as a command post.
He says the theme to this year’s EMS Week is “Everyday Heroes.”
Tromblay says they don’t look to give themselves praise, but he says every person he works with is committed to helping others.
He says EMS workers are out there 24/7, dealing with all types of situations and weather.
There are a few events planned this week to bring awareness to the work paramedics do.
Tromblay says they will follow up on this past Christmas’s success with their “Stuff the Ambulance Food Drive.”
He says they will be collecting donations for the Hanover food bank at Grant’s Independent in Hanover on Wednesday from 10 AM to 4 PM.
On Thursday, Tromblay is encouraging everybody to register as a bone marrow donor.
He says they will have paramedics at the Wal-Mart in Owen Sound and Hanover from 2PM to 8PM.
Tromblay says it’s a quick procedure — you just need to fill out some paperwork, and then they will take four swabs from the inside of your cheek.
