It’s now official.
The Walkerton Hospital just got bigger with the opening of its new medical clinic.
Officials were on hand for the ceremonial ribbon cutting on Friday for the seven thousand square foot facility, on the grounds of the old nurses residence at the hospital.
Fundraising chair Maurice Donnelly says it’s been a great day for the people of the area and he had a special announcement as well.
The fundraising of two-million-dollars by the public is complete and done ahead of time.
Donnelly says they reached their goal in 44 months.
They had set aside 60 months to get the money.
Donnelly says the clinic is home to the Brockton and area Health Team with enough space for eight doctors.
The 3.8-million-dollar expansion means a significant improvement to the delivery of medical care for South Bruce Grey and includes new birthing suites, facilities for the family health team, physicians’ suites and facilities for other much needed services.
Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell pointed out the sod turning for the expansion happened exactly 18 months ago, on November 13th, 2009 and it was through the hard work of the community that the clinic and the hospital expansion have been completed.
