The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation is continuing its efforts to keep Lake Huron safe.
Founder of the centre Matt Pearson spoke at Friday’s annual general meeting of the Lake Huron Learning Collabrative in Goderich.
Pearson tells us the goal is to protect a large area from Sarnia to Tobermory.
The non profit organization also promotes an eco-friendly message.
Pearson believes Lake Huron is the cleanest lake of the Great Lakes.
He says his organization faces challenges in keeping Lake Huron clean.
Pearson says warmer waters, shoreline erosion, and lower lake levels are some hurdles his group faces.
He adds these are issues that require long term solutions.
Pearson says the group started in 1998 without a lot of financial support but a generous donation really helped.
He tells us the LHCCC recently received a bequest of 75 thousand dollars.
Pearson says the money left in the will has allowed the organization to hire a marketing person and establish an office.
Pearson says the grand opening of their office on Hamilton Street in Goderich will be on June 17th.
