You’ve heard of the Order of Canada and perhaps the Order of Ontario.
The Order of Kincardine is a medal which will be awarded to citizens who make a lifetime achievement to Canada, province or community.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says the first medals will be handed out in June to all war veterans in Kincardine and area who have made a sacrifice for all Canadians to ensure our freedom and our way of life.
Kraemer says the medal will display the Coat of Arms of Kincardine on one side and the words, Order of Kincardine on the other.
It’s a little smaller than an Olympic medal.
He says the concept is the brainchild of citizen Donna Wilson who felt some sort of recognition should be made of Kincardine’s war vets.
Kraemer says a special scroll will be developed as well and as new names are added to the Order of Kincardine, they will be placed on the scroll.
He says the first medals will be handed out at a special ceremony on June 22nd at 2pm at the Davidson Centre.
Kramer says the idea is to have war vets’ families on hand so they can see the recognition the community gives its World War II and Korean War military service personnel.
Cost to organize the event is about two thousand dollars, which will be split between Mayor Kraemer’s budget and Bruce Power.
