A cut by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is not as bad as first thought for Hanover.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says OLG plans to cut 35 thousand dollars a year from Hanover’s slot revenue.
Originally it was thought the town’s share would be cut from five to two per cent.
Maskell blames new OLG accounting practices for the proposal which has yet to be finalized.
She say OLG wants to pass on the high costs of its new accounting practices onto municipalities.
While Maskell is not happy about the cut — she is relieved it’s not the three per cent cut originally reported.
Maskell will be investigating the issue further on Friday when she participates in an OLG conference call to discuss the matter.
Over the last 10 years, Hanover has received 8.5 million dollars in slot revenue.
Since the Hanover Slots opened in February of 2001, more than three million visitors have come through the doors.
