The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce will be relocating to Walkerton’s downtown this September.
The Chamber has given Brockton notice of the move, as it is currently located in the former Walkerton P.U.C. building.
Rising utility costs and the uncertainty regarding their current location prompted the Board of Directors to make this bold move.
There have been some rumblings that the municipality may sell the former P.U.C. building.
Rather than wait for that to happen and be left scrambling to find a new home, the Chamber decided to be proactive and relocate first.
Manager Tracey Cassidy is very excited about the new location at 101 Durham Street, which they are renting.
She says the downtown office will make the Chamber much more visible and accessible to its members and the public.
The downtown location is also a better fit for the Brockton Visitor Centre which the Chamber also runs.
In anticipation of the move, the Chamber is currently undertaking some renovations at the new site.
The Chamber’s tenant agreement with Brockton will be terminated on August 31st.
Under the current agreement, Brockton provided the Chamber with space in return for utility costs and property taxes.
