Kids across Grey-Bruce are rolling up their sleeves for annual vaccinations.
It is National Immunization Awareness Week.
Public Health Nurse Mary Lynn Barron says it’s important children get their shots at specific ages, because the schedules are designed to keep antibody levels sufficient.
She says even though many diseases haven’t been around for a while, we can’t get complacent.
Barron says there are some parents who want to keep their kids from being immunized.
She reminds parents it’s important to be well-informed before making this decision.
With many people turning to the Internet, Barron cautions that not all websites are accurate or up to date, and some are even designed just to scare people.
She says parents can visit the Health Unit’s website, where they will be linked to other sources of credible information.
Barron says public health nurses will be in schools right through the month to give out immunizations.
