The town of Saugeen Shores is starting to see some activity from residents interested in hooking up to the new sewer system, north of the Saugeen River in Southampton.
The Director of Engineering Services Dave Burnside says many residents have received permits and are just waiting for the contractors to be available to hook them up.
Burnside says several residents are already hooked into the 19.6 million dollar project.
The ability to hook up began April 4th.
Burnside says the issuing of permits helps engineering keep tabs on who wants the service now so they don’t fall through the cracks.
He says all services are inspected by the municipality as they are completed to make sure everything is in working order.
You have until the end of this year to hook up to the system, unless you have an approved septic system that is less than five years old.
Then you can defer hookup for another two years.
