It’s going to cost you soon to drop off clean fill at the Saugeen Shores landfill site.
Director of Public Works Stuart Doyle says clean fill can be any type of gravel, top soil or sand to name a few items.
Doyle says there will be a charge of 50 dollars per tonne in the future — not so much to deter the individual resident from dropping off the material but to deter larger trucks from coming into the landfill site.
The fee is only half what the usual feel for stumps and wood disposal.
Clean wood and brush is free.
Doyle says the idea is to keep the landfill site for legitimate waste.
He says the clean fill should be taken elsewhere.
Councillor Fred Schildroth says the town should look at directing the clean fill to the abandoned quarry pits in former Saugeen Township.
Schildroth says it was the town’s plan to rehabilitate them and clean fill would be just what is needed.
He says he doesn’t know the process in getting that to happen but staff should look into it.
