The Hanover and District Hospital has just kicked off its latest fundraising campaign called ‘Mammography Matters.’
You can honour your mom or someone close to you by making a 20 dollar donation to the cause in her honour.
In return, the Hospital will send out a special Mothers Day card to your loved one in recognition of the contribution.
Foundation Director Sue Patterson is confident the community will get behind this project.
She says it’s going to take about four years to raise the 500 thousand dollars needed to cover the cost of the machine.
The new digital mammography machine is up and running and it provides higher quality resolution than what the older analog model could.
Along with clearer images, Patterson says it also offers shorter examination time.

The Canadian Cancer Society says over 23 thousand women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and 53 hundred will die.
One in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer during her life time and 1 in 28 will die of it.
