Many will have to wait until April 27th — the final public meeting of the Kincardine and Port Elgin ARC group for the Bluewater public school board.
But Bayshore Broadcasting News already has what the general public will hear from chair Richard Yun.
Yun says the committee will make a recommendation to the board on a three-school option.
Elgin Market would become a French immersion school
Kincardine Township Tiverton school (KTTPS) would be a junior school — Junior Kindergarten to Grade three.
Huron Heights would be the senior school — Grades four to eight.
Yun admits the plan will mean fewer kids at all three buildings and that could impact some programming.
He says it also means they’re going to be losing money that will have to be found elsewhere but he says, the committee felt the benefits outweighed the negatives.
Although the three-school plan will be the only recommendation made to the board, it will come with a proviso that if the board doesn’t like it, the committee feels a junior/senior school system would be the route to go.
That would see Elgin Market shut down but that is not what the committee wants.
Meanwhile, Kincardine/Huron Kinloss board trustee Jan Johnstone says she supports the committee’s decision because it’s what her community wants.
The ARC group is expected to present their recommendation to the board in June with the board making a final decision in October.
