A familiar face was absent from the Bruce Grey Owen Sound Federal All Candidates meeting.
Incumbent Conservative MP Larry Miller couldn’t attend Monday night’s debate due to a prior commitment, but the other three candidates didn’t miss a beat.
Liberal candidate Kimberley Love, Green Party hopeful Emma Hogbin and Karen Gventer of the NDP took the stage at the Owen Sound library to discuss their platforms and answer questions.
Emma Hogbin stated she actually felt it was an advantage that Miller was absent — saying it allowed them to find common ground between the three parties, rather than just battling with the Conservatives the whole time.
Kimberley Love feels this riding has lost patience with the Tories, and a change is needed.
There were in fact a number of common views shared by the Liberals, Greens and NDP — centering mostly on poverty, family issues, education and health care.
All three candidates shared a common belief that the corporate tax cuts proposed by the Harper government need to be taken off the table.
For that matter — most of the Conservative platform was described as “wasteful” by the candidates.
NDP candidate Karen Gventer says at the end of the day — it’s up to the people of this riding to make an informed decision…but most of all, just to get out and vote.
