A cornerstone of Owen Sound’s shipping history will be featured in the newest exhibit at the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum.
The “Harbour Jewel” exhibit opens today to tell the story of the Diamond Steamship Company and the Story of the Hindman Transportation Company.
Paul Evans is a member of the Hindman family and says it’s incredible to see his family history laid out at the museum.
He said at the time the company operated, he didn’t realize the impact it had on the Owen Sound economy, but today it brings great pride to his family.
He says Curator Mindy Gill and her staff have done an incredible job putting the show together, finding artifacts about the company he didn’t even know existed.
Gill says shortly after she started working at the museum in 2007, she noticed they were receiving a lot of donations from a Pat Evans, and decided they had to make a collection.
The exhibit opens at 1:30 PM and many former employees will be on hand for a special reception.
It will stay on display for the next three years.
