The Ontario Fire Marshall’s office has released more information about the blaze in Listowel that killed two volunteer firefighters.
The Fire Marshall confirms contractors were repairing the roof to the Dollar Stop — and that led to the ignition of interior combustible components on March 17th.
Responding crews indicated that since there was no smoke or flames inside the building — they entered to confirm no one was inside and to find the source of the fire.
But that is when the roof collapsed — killing 30 year old Raymond Walter from Listowel and 56 year old Kenneth Rea from Atwood.
The Fire Marshall’s office says it will continue to analyze the sequence of events during the fire.
