Hanover has set its 2011 budget — and it includes a 0.4 per cent tax increase.
Mayor Kathi Maskell says this works out to be a 5 dollar increase for the average home assessed at 167 thousand dollars.
Once the County and education portion of the taxes are factored in — Hanover residents can expect to see an overall tax increase of 1.12 per cent.
That works out to another 26 dollars for a home assessed at 167 thousand dollars.
Maskell says the town was able to keep the tax increase low because of an increase in property assessments this year.
Maskell admits OLG funding from the Slots facility also helped the budget process.
Hanover will be taking on a number of capital projects this year.
Some of the big ticket items include the purchase of a new fire truck, a second cemetery columbarium, an electronic LED Display for the Civic Centre, the completion of work at the Water Treatment Plant, upgrades to Kinsmen Park and phase 4 of the Hanover Park revitalization project.
There will also be a few road reconstruction and water and sewer upgrade projects.
