The Owen Sound Little Theatre is getting some star power in its next production.
Tom Albrecht, a professional actor with the Stratford and Blyth Shakespeare Festivals will play the lead role in MacBeth, which opens tonight.
Albrecht says it’s been a fun experience rehearsing with the local community theatre, as it brings a different atmosphere from the Festivals.
He says the actors here are involved because they genuinely love to do it, and that enthusiasm makes it a positive experience.
Albrecht says he’s found that he’s also become a bit of a mentor to some of the actors, and it’s different as he’s never been a teacher before.
When it comes to performing Shakespeare’s works, Albrecht says it forces actors to step up their game.
He says most people have read Shakespeare, and know what will happen, so it’s his job to stay one step ahead of the audience and keep them from getting bored.
As for playing the lead of MacBeth, Albrecht says he didn’t know he could be so threatening and scary, and some people have told him they’ve gotten chills watching him in rehearsal.
He’s hoping that will make for a really good show.
‘The Scottish Play’ will run at the Roxy tonight until Saturday and again next weekend from April 13th to April 16th.
