Kincardine will deal with the development of wind turbines but not through a suggested bylaw put forth by Councillor Randy Roppel.
Council recently voted to scrap any bylaw, including one being offered by Arran Elderslie, based on two separate legal opinions.
Councillor Roppel was absent from the meeting.
Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer says both legal opinions said the same thing.
Kraemer says the solicitors said it would be a major danger if they tried to legislate against the development of wind farms.
Kraemer says they know they don’t have the authority to say what can and cannot be done in the development of wind farms but they hope to create a series of guidelines that spell out how, if the development is going to go forward, the municipality would like to see it unfold.
He says their only hope is that the developers will be cooperative and be aware of the municipality’s concerns about the health and well being of its residents.
Meanwhile, Kincardine council is holding a special meeting on Tuesday, April 5th dedicated to the wind turbine issue.
The public is invited to attend and will be allowed to address council as well.
The meeting gets underway at 4 PM.
