There’s a bit of a termite problem in Kincardine and now is not the time to eliminate a termite inspector program.
So says Councillor Ron Coristine during a recent budget session in Kincardine.
Coristine says you can’t see the termites, you can’t hear them and so little is known about them, by professional builders and home owners.
He says the damage done to homes is as high as 100 thousand dollars and you don’t know you have them until after the damage is done.
Coristine says Kincardine should have an inspection program that is well informed and can educate people, then you can prevent infestations to a great extent.
He says there’s a lot of mis-information out there.
He relates that he was told foam was termite proof and so were railway ties.
Coristine says he’s seen both, full of termites.
In order to re-instate the termite inspection program, council needs to add just over $11,800 to the budget.
The motion is in limbo on a 4-4 tie with the chair of the committee, Councillor Maureen Couture not casting the deciding vote until a report is brought forward on the problem.
