The return of spring means the tapping of trees for maple syrup.
And the Saugeen Conservation Authority is celebrating with their 40th annual Old-Tyme Maple Syrup Festival.
Spokesperson Shannon Wood says the festival started Saturday with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Paisley Kinsmen.
But Wood says there’s more than just breakfast, they’ll also have horse-drawn wagon rides for scenic tours, and pioneer re-enactors portraying life from the 1800’s.
There will also be kids games, acitivities and demonstrations and live entertainment.
On Sunday, Wood says they will host the Maple Games.
You can participate in the competitions, which range from log-sawing to nail-driving to pancake eating.
Wood says the prizes are – of course – maple syrup.
As for parking, Wood says to leave your car at the arena parking lot or Gibby’s Grub parking lot in Paisley and there will be regular, free shuttle buses to bring you to the Conservation area.
The events run Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM.
All of the proceeds from the event are going to local conservation projects.
