The issue of whether or not to save the original St. Mary’s School Building in Owen Sound will be revisited on Monday night.
City council will debate a recommendation by staff to grant site plan approval for the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board to construct an addition to the current school building.
The addition would incorporate a commemoration of the original 120 year old structure, which would then be demolished.
The issue was deferred to tonight’s meeting because many members of Council were missing when the recommendation came up earlier this month.
Councillor Jim McManaman has said many times that more should be done to save the building.
Many residents feel the building should be saved to protect our heritage.
The Catholic School Board says it would cost too much money to repair the historic building — and the province will not provide any funding for it.
