March is Fraud Prevention Month.
Provincial Police want to raise public awareness about frauds to put a stop to a crime that costs unsuspecting Ontarians’ billions of dollars each year.
Constable Kevin Martin of the South Bruce OPP detachment says the Internet is a powerful tool for fraudsters.
He notes they use the internet to gather information about us; from names and addresses to phone numbers and even credit card numbers.
Martin says it’s important to recognize that frauds are usually unsolicited phone calls, emails or even visits to your door.
If you didn’t invite them, they shouldn’t be there.
Martin adds if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and trust your instincts.
