Time is running out on the contest for “Great Places in Canada”.
The Canadian Institute of Planners set up the competition on-line and anyone in Canada can nominate their favourite place or vote on one already nominated.
From our area, Harrison Park in Owen Sound has received some 40 votes while Sauble Beach has 20 votes, Wasaga Beach has 60 and Bruce Peninsula National Park has received 35 votes.
Local residents will have to ramp up the voting, if any of our favourite spots is to win.
Spokesperson Andrea Gabor says there are a number of locations that have grabbed big numbers in the contest.
The Belleville water tower has 178 votes, the Niagara Escarpment 422 and Manitoulin island 588 votes.
But so far, the undisputed leader in Ontario is Zwicks Park in Belleville with nearly 8 thousand votes.
The contest is on until March 25th and a panel of judges will select the finalists in April.
Winners will be announced in May.
The nominator of the winner in each category — street, public space and neighbourhood — will get a 500 dollar travel voucher from Via Rail.
