It appears crystal meth usage in Bruce County is skyrocketing among adults over 18.
The numbers tell the tale according to Bruce County Director of Social Services, Terry Sanderson, speaking during Thursday’s Social Services and Housing Committee meeting.
Sanderson says across Ontario for people who are accessing addiction services, the average was 1.4 per cent last year on meth.
In the targeted communities of Kincardine, Walkerton, Hanover, Chesley and Durham, the number skyrockets to 19 per cent.
Sanderson says with that many meth users seeking help, it doesn’t bode well for the numbers that have not come forward and are still on the drug.
He says when you take a look at the numbers in Grey-Bruce the number drops to 9 per cent but still well above the provincial average.
Sanderson says crystal meth users are growing in the area.
Recently, consumers were asked to complete a questionnaire on their drug use.
A total of 1585 completed surveys.
The data provided is currently under review and will be presented to Bruce County council in the next couple of months.
