With the sanitary sewer project north of the Saugeen River in Southampton virtually completed, it’s time to pay the bills.
Saugeen Shores treasurer Lori Sweiger says with a final estimated cost over just over 19.6 million dollars, it means a residential sewer connection charge of $8,525, which is about 500 dollars less than the last estimate.
The commercial rate is just over 15 thousand dollars which is a bit higher from the last estimate.
Sweiger says taxpayers can expect to see their invoices in the mail by the end of March.
For those that wish to pay in one shot, you will have until the end of May to do so.
The other option is residents will be able to pay on their tax bills over a 10-year period on a guaranteed rate.
Amortization can go longer but there’s no guarantee on the interest rate.
Residents can start connecting to the sewer system in April.
Sweiger says those with septic systems less than 5 years old, can defer hook-up for two years, provided the Grey Bruce Health Unit approves the system.
Otherwise you can only defer hookup on developed property until the end of the 2011.
