A near tragedy on Lake Huron after two girls were rescued on Monday night.
South Bruce OPP were called around 7:30 PM after receiving a report of two youth a long way out on the ice.
The girls were returned to shore safely and reunited with their families — Police warn it could easily have had a very tragic ending.
The OPP have these tips for parents and children.
Ice does not freeze at a uniform thickness and near shore ice is often much thicker and safer than ice further out.
Clear blue ice is the strongest.
And Parents — since children are out of school this week — they should never play on or near ice unless supervised by an adult.
