Southampton and area residents can now get an ultrasound on their heart performed at their local hospital.
Grey Bruce Health Services spokesperson Anne Robertson says up until now — they were doing echocardiograms in Owen Sound and Markdale hospitals, but not Southampton.
Now, Sonographer Cathy Geddes will be working at the Southampton hospital one day every two weeks, meaning patients don’t have to travel to Owen Sound.
Robertson says it also will help to ease the waiting list at the Owen Sound hospital for the service.
The ultrasound provides doctors with information on the function and anatomy of a patients’ heart.
About 50 dollars worth of equipment has already been installed as an add-on to the ultrasound machine in Southampton, and Geddes started seeing patients last week.
