The tender has been awarded for the construction work at St. Basil’s elementary school in Owen Sound.
Allen Hastings of Owen Sound gets the bid — and work will get underway soon.
The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board wants the extra space to accommodate the new full day kindergarten program that will be offered this fall.
The cost is 1.5 million dollars.
The province is financing just over 900 thousand dollars of the project — and the Catholic Board will cover the balance.
Superintendent of Business Cathy Colton says the project will see the construction of three classrooms, four small meeting rooms and some renovations to existing classrooms.
Colton says the new classrooms will have a unique design for children — and she feels it will create a wonderful modern learning space.
The shovel will hit the ground soon — the Catholic Board is just awaiting some last minute approvals from the Ministry of Education.
The entire project will be complete for September.
Depending on enrolment, St. Basil’s will offer either five or six full day kindergarten classrooms this Fall.
