Three area residents have been fined for an illegal moose hunt.
Jim Martin of Owen Sound, Calvin Crawford of Tara and Brian Cupskey of Allenford all received 250 dollar fines.
Martin was also convicted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and fined $2,250 for discharging a firearm across a highway.
The Ministry of Natural resources says the men came across a moose in a ditch across the road from them on Highway 11 in Northern Ontario.
They fired two shots killing the animal.
The incident happened last October, and according to the MNR — they gave false information to the conservation officer when asked about where the animal had been killed.
Both the moose and the firearm were seized, and the gun will be returned after the fines are paid.
The Ministry reminds hunters that it is illegal to shoot from, down or across a public road.
