The Grey Bruce Health Unit presented its budget to Bruce County councillors Thursday, and like most budgets, it’s up about three per cent.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Hazel Lynn told councillors the shared cost on the mandatory programs is about 10 million dollars.
The province picks up 75 per cent of the cost while 25 per cent is split between Bruce and Grey counties, pro-rated on population.
As a result Bruce County’s share is up $26,724 while Grey County will pay out just over $33,063 more than last year.
Bruce County’s overall share is just over $1.1 millions and Grey County is looking at paying over $1.5 million.
Dr. Lynn says most lines in their budget have not changed from last year, other than those over which they have no control.
She says their goal next year is to encourage community development models so the health message is embedded in smaller communities throughout Bruce and Grey.
Bruce County councillors will likely complete their budget discussions on March 24th.
