While opposition is growing to Bruce Power’s plan to ship 16 decommissioned steam generators to Sweden — there is still overwhelming support for the plan.
The Standing Committee on Natural Resources will hear today from our Medical Officer of Health Doctor Hazel Lynn, who has endorsed the plan.
She will speak via video link to the House of Commons committee.
Georgian Bluffs Mayor Al Barfoot will also speak by video link in favour of the plan on behalf of the County of Grey.
Barfoot says they are comfortable with the plans Bruce Power has submitted.
Bruce Power wants to ship the 16 steam generators — each the size of a school bus — from its Tiverton plant to Sweden, through the Great Lakes and along the St. Lawrence.
The House of Commons committee will also hear today from environmental and aboriginal groups who oppose Bruce Power’s project.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has already approved the transport.
