The Bluewater District School Board is prepared to meet at a moments notice should international political tensions rise – and threaten overseas school field trips.
With the volatile situation in Libya — field trip organizers are keeping a close eye on any developments that could threaten the security of the students.
Bluewater Board Chair Marg Gaviller says they would convene an impromptu meeting if the Government of Canada issued a travel advisory — even as the first group of travellers is set to takeoff on Wednesday.
Gaviller says that would not necessarily mean a cancellation of field trips altogether – it could simply mean finding an alternate route to get to their destination.
She says the students will be travelling to areas such as Italy, Greece, France, Germany, and Switzerland – areas of the globe not directly effected by the current situation in the Middle East.
Gaviller adds all those involved with the field trips spend up to two years planning these trips – meaning every step will be taken to make sure the trips go ahead as planned.
Still, Gaviller says the Board is also taking every precaution to ensure the students safety.
