It’s a day to spend a little extra time with our family and friends.
And since Family Day is a provincial statutory holiday, many stores and businesses will be closed.
Police across the province are actually reminding business owners that Family Day is considered to be a holiday under the Retail Business Holidays Act.
All businesses must be closed today unless they meet one of the exemptions under the act.
Small businesses that sell handicrafts, book or magazine stores, some pharmacies, flower shops and gas stations are exempt.
The minimum fine for businesses that open on prohibited days is 500 dollars.
Since it’s only a provincial holiday, Canada Post will still deliver your mail today and Federal government offices are open.
But municipal offices are closed and garbage pick up will be pushed back a day.
Beer and liquor stores and banks in our area are also closed today.
