The Accommodation Review Committee which is looking at schools in Kincardine is looking at a suggestion to close down Elgin Market School.
The Bluewater District School Board says they don’t have enough room at the school for parking and perhaps a future addition.
Kincardine council is going to cut off that argument at the pass.
It just so happens the municipality owns a 3-acre parcel of land right next to the school which is zoned for a parking lot and future expansion and they’re willing to consider a long term lease to the board.
Deputy Mayor Anne Eadie, who is a member of the ARC group, says the land would be big enough for the parking lot, a playground and future expansion in 10 or 15 years.
Eadie believes this would help keep Elgin Market open.
Mayor Larry Kraemer says if the move ensures that it counters one of the arguments to closing the school then it would be in the municipality’s best interest to make sure the land is available to the board.
The next ARC meeting in Kincardine will be Thursday, March 3rd, 7 PM at Huron Heights School.
