Some exciting news for the Hanover and District Hospital.
The Hanover and District Hospital has just purchased a digital mammography unit.
Vice President of Patient Care Services Esther Millar says the state of the art technology will advance women’s health.
Because it is digital, Millar says it will provide health professionals with superior results.
She says the improved technology will aid in diagnosis and ultimately result in timely treatment.
Millar says the digital information can be read remotely and will provide enhanced pictures for radiologists.
Once the new equipment is fully operational, the Hospital is going to apply for breast screening site recognition from Cancer Care Ontario.
Millar says this recognition will allow the hospital to make the best use of the new equipment by targeting women within a certain age group to be screened.
She says prevention and promotion are two key elements of a breast screening site.
The 500 thousand dollar piece of equipment is set to arrive at the Hospital by March 31st.
The unit is 130 thousand dollars less than what the Hospital had budgeted for.
Hanover partnered with London Hospital when purchasing the unit and was able to take advantage of some big savings through bulk purchasing.
