The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s report on Canadians health shows some concerning numbers for residents in Grey Bruce.
At the same time, it appears people living in Simcoe County are in better shape.
Officials are concerned that the biggest problem is many people simply ignore the facts and don’t believe they have a health problem.
According to the numbers, 47 per cent of the residents in Grey Bruce say they are physically in-active during their leisure time, compared with the provincial average of 49 per cent.
In Simcoe County, more people are active as only 40 per cent report being couch potatoes.
The obesity level in Simcoe county is 18 per cent, which is about the provincial average, but in Grey Bruce that number jumps to nearly 24 per cent of the population.
Doctor Ross Feldman — a heart specialist at LHSC in London and a contributor to the recent study — says age may be a factor in the numbers.
He says the population in Simcoe County is somewhat younger, and more active which would lead to fewer cases of obesity.
