False fire alarms have been cut in half in Saugeen Shores in the past year compared to 2009.
Fire Chief Phil Eagleson made the report to council during preliminary budget talks recently.
Eagleson says he attributes the improvement to business people and building owners being more vigilant about having properly working equipment installed.
He says the fire department responds to all alarms and if it turns out to be false through malfunction of equipment, the first call is free.
Eagleson says that also assures that the property owner is now aware that there is a problem with the fire alarm.
The second call can cost 500 dollars.
In 2008, there were 68 false alarm calls and that reduced by 10 in 2009 to 58.
In 2010, the number dropped to 26 calls.
