The Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board is actively seeking out high school drop outs.
Over the last year the school board has contacted 31 drop outs and successful persuaded 28 of them to return to class.
Superintendent of Education Jerry Casey is very pleased with the results.
He says this just goes to show that a caring adult can be instrumental in bringing a drop out back to school.
Casey says some of these student re-enrolled in the regular class setting while others went straight into a co-op placement.
Whatever the case he says these students will soon have a high school diploma.
Under the program, Student Success teachers are charged with the task of finding these drop outs and inviting them back to school.
The provinces Ontario Student Information System makes it possible to track down these former students.
Casey says this is a program the Catholic Board will continue
Overall the drop out rate in the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board is just shy of 4 per cent.
The School Board boasts a 76 per cent graduation rate over 4 years and an 83per cent graduation rate over five years both figures are well above the provincial average of 70 per cent and 79 per cent.
