The Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound has been granted stadium licensing by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
Theatre Manager Aly Boltman says this will enhance the experience for people coming to enjoy a show at the Roxy, because they’ll now be able to bring alcoholic beverages to their seats.
Boltman says it should also help drive up revenues at the theatre because alcohol sales will increase, and she believes it will help attract more shows.
She says the Roxy is the only theatre she knows of in Grey-Bruce that has stadium licensing, and this will help them attract concert promoters that are looking for a venue that not only serves alcohol, but also has great acoustics.
The process to get this licensing started back in November, and Boltman said they needed a letter of support from council.
Then the building department and an architect had to check over the building, and the Grey-Bruce Health Unit did an inspection as well.
Boltman says it took a lot of time and quite a bit of money, and it will in the future for renewals as well, but she adds it will be worth it in the long run.
The first show where patrons can enjoy a drink in their seat will be during the adult-only show “Seeing Red,” which will run on Valentine’s Day.
