A new combo Grey-Bruce website has been launched.
Invest-in-grey-bruce.com was unveiled Thursday at the Bruce County Council regular meeting.
Bruce County senior planner David Smith says this is the first project of the Grey Bruce Regional Economic Development Partnership.
He says it represents a commmitment to job creation, retention and strengthening Grey Bruce as a sustainable regional economy.
The website will highlight all kinds of information about the area in the fields of agriculture, tourism, retail and manufacturing to name a few.
Smith says the site cost both counties 35 thousand dollars each to chip in and the federal government put in an additional 20 thousand.
He says every municipality in Grey Bruce is invited to create their own page on the website which has been up since January.
Grey County Warden Arlene Wright says it’s websites like this new one that can very well attract the cottage industry to the area.
She admits huge industry simply won’t set up in the region.
Bruce County Warden Mike Smith says the site is really about creating jobs and building the community.
Meanwhile, Grey County Tourism Manager and Economic Development Coordinator Bryan Plumstead says this is just one of many partnership ideas being developed.
Plumstead says the partnership is currently working on an advanced wood products manufacturing study and both counties continue to explore an economic development strategy for the region.
He says the wood industry is really concentrated in the area and perhaps bringing the different industries together to help one another could help the industry survive further.
Plumstead points out their study found just under 60 wood manufacturers in the area, employing 600 people with annual sales of 72-million-dollars.
The industries include furniture manufacturers and hardwood flooring businesses as well.
