The Town of Saugeen Shores is partnering with the McGuinty Liberals to help grow the local economy.
The municipality has partnered with the province as well as the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce and the Business Enterprise Centre to create an action plan to assess the needs of local business.
Saugeen Shores will receive a 25 thousand dollar grant from the Ontario Rural Economic Development Program to pay for the study.
Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell was on hand Tuesday for a cheque presentation from OMAFRA to the Business Enterprise Centre.
Mitchell — the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs — says this is seed money to build the local economy.
She says economic funding is crucial in rural communities because budgets are often quite small.
Mitchell says a plan will be put in place to assess where the money is needed and a strategy will be formed to determine how it can best be used.
Mitchell says the five year plan is all about retention and expansion of local businesses to help grow the economy and job market.
Through the Rural Economic Development Program, Ontario has invested over 120 million dollars in 311 projects which have generated more than one billion dollars in economic activity.
