It’s a full weekend for those who truly love cinema this weekend in Owen Sound.
The Tom Thomson Art Gallery’s 9th annual Reel Festival begins today and it’s a sold out event.
Manager of Public Programs David Huff says they’ve changed the format this year to make it all about the movies, and he thinks that’s helped ticket sales.
Huff says they’ve gotten rid of the parties they’ve had in the past, and will screen six movies over the two days.
Another change is that they won’t have two different screening times, each film will play once, and only one will play at a time.
The first movie, ‘Waste Land’, is Saturday morning at 10 AM and following that will be ‘It’s Kind of a Funny Story,’ with ‘Hangover’ star Zack Galifinakis, and ‘Incendies’ which is this year’s Best Canadian Feature at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Huff says Sunday morning kicks off with a movie that has strong local ties.
‘Small Town Murder Songs’ was filmed in Listowel and Palmerston, and the soundtrack features the band called Bruce Peninsula.
Huff says one of the actors, Aaron Poole, is originally from Barrie and will be on hand for a question and answer period afterward.
Sunday’s other two films are ‘Never Let Me Go’ and ‘Tamara Drewe.’
All of the proceeds from the film festival go to support the Tom Thomson Art Gallery.
