The Ceksters family has lived along Denny’s Dam Road for 50 years on the same property.
But the family was shocked to find out there was a parcel of land that they have taken care of for years that was not theirs and indeed was sold from under them by South Bruce Peninsula.
David Ceksters was at South Bruce Peninsula council Tuesday to speak out on his plight.
He told council he should have at least been told that this sliver of land at the back end of his property was the town’s and it was sold.
He said he found out from a neighbour.
Ceksters says it’s a shame how the issue was handled.
Ceksters says three generations of his family has lived on the land and believed the land which has scrub brush on it, was part of his problem.
He was surprised to find that the town had already sold the land to an unnamed buyer.
Ceksters says he has spoken to his lawyer who has indicated he has a good case against the town for not notifying the family of what was going on.
Meanwhile, the deal on the land has since gone sour and Mayor John Close believes this issue, which was unfortunate, can be solved if Ceksters will talk with town staff.
Close believes a solution can be had without legal wrangling.
Ceksters plans to have that talk with town staff as soon as possible.
